What are the differences in applications for sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) with different viscosities?

The viscosity of CMC is a core performance indicator, and products with different viscosities have significantly different functions and applications.


1. Low viscosity CMC-Na (<100 mPa·s, 2% aqueous solution, 25℃): Good solubility, weak thickening, primarily used for dispersion, suspension, and anti-settling, used in detergents, papermaking, ceramics, and light-textured foods.

2. Medium viscosity CMC-Na (100–1000 mPa·s, 2% aqueous solution, 25℃): Combines thickening and stabilizing abilities, with moderate viscosity, suitable for the food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries.

3. High viscosity CMC-Na (>1000 mPa·s, 2% aqueous solution, 25℃): Extremely strong thickening properties, forming high-viscosity or gel systems even at low concentrations, with water-retaining and film-forming effects, used in oil drilling, construction, high-viscosity foods, and coatings.
